Dr. Iván Arteaga

Dr. Iván Arteaga is an expert in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery, accredited by the Diploma de Competencia de la Sociedad Española de Cirugía de la Obesidad (SECO) (Diploma of Competence of the Spanish Society of Surgery of Obesity) for the realization of this type of surgery. He has performed over 1,000 procedures through this approach (gallbladder, gastroesophageal reflux, inguinal hernia, eventrations and colorectal cancer…).

Formed in the world renowned center with the most experience in Bariatric Surgery (ALSA Fresno, USA), he has dedicated more than ten years of his life, both in his public and private activity, to the Morbid Obesity Surgery. Awarded an Extraordinary Doctorate by Universidad de La Laguna University (ULL) (University of La Laguna) and Hospital Universitario de Canarias (HUC) (University Hospital of the Canary Islands), specialist.

Professor of the Department of Surgery of the ULL, he has completed his surgical training during extended stays in Centers of Excellence in Laparoscopic Surgery: Hospital Clínico de Barcelona, Laparoscopic Center of South Florida and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery Associates in San Francisco University, in California and Gastroenterology. Obeso Center, in São Paulo. Member of the Asociación Española de Cirujanos (AEC) (Spanish Association of Surgeons) and vocal member of Research of the Sociedad Española de Cirugía de la Obesidad (SECO) (Spanish Society of Surgery of Obesity).

He is currently a Consultant Member of the Digestive Tumors Committee of the HUC and Hospital Quirón Tenerife. In recent years he has committed to the development and research of Metabolic Surgery and performs the metabolic gastric bypass for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
